Summer vs. Winter: How to Keep Your Home Clean Each Time of the Year

Is it easier to clean during the winter or the summer? What are the pros and cons for every time of the year? Let's read and find out!

Cleaning During Summer

Places such as Dallas usually have very high temperatures and humidity during the year. Add some organic food sources and you have the perfect scenario for mold. A dehumidifier is a great choice here because it will let you set the right humidity level for your home, which shouldn't be higher than 60%.

During the summer, it's also common to see dust accumulate everywhere, especially on your blinds and windows. Make sure you clean your blinds once or twice a month to avoid them from gathering dust.

Ceiling Fans are also popular during summer, but they collect dust and pollen. Fortunately, this will only require an all-purpose cleaner and a step-stool! You can check this cleaning checklist to make sure you have the right supplies before starting a summer deep clean!

Cleaning During Winter

Even though there's the common myth that mold grows best in hot, humid environments, there's a big chance that mold and mildew also grow during winter.

Wintertime also creates a major difference between the inside and outside temperatures. This creates a higher chance of condensation, and we know that wherever constant water is, there's risk of mold activity.

Check your home and watch out particularly for rooms or areas that come into contact with water or moisture constantly (such as your patio, your bathroom, your kitchen, your plumbing). Open your windows from time to time to let sunlight and airflow into your home.

Other issues that arise during winter are constant mud, as well as traces of dust on the windows after it's rained and/or snowed. Remember to vacuum your home constantly, depending on the type of flooring it may be up to every other day. Having pets or small kids is also an important factor.

If you have allergies, you probably have a hard time during winter, because dust mites are everywhere. If possible, get yourself an air purifier. This will absorb dust particles, spores, dust mites, and other harmful components in the air.

Bonus: Spring Cleaning

Of course, we all know that spring cleaning is very popular to welcome this time of the year. Spring is a perfect opportunity not only to deep clean your entire house, but to declutter and organize as well. You can check our special spring cleaning guide here
